The Palace of Fine Arts, conceived as the greatest representation of culture in Mexico, currently offers diverse artistic activities, among which stand out the seasons presented by the most important groups from the National Institute of Fine Arts, such as the National Symphonic Orchestra, the National Dance Company, the National Opera Company, the National Theatre Company among others.
The performance hall of this theatre (forum) has capacity for 1,800 spectators and a stage of 24 meters long. The beautiful glass mosaic curtain, made by the Tiffany Studio in New York with more than a million of pieces of opalescent glass representing a wonderful view of the Valley of Mexico, stands out in a particular way.
Inside the art house is kept the Museum of the Palace of Fine Arts, inaugurated under the name of Museum of Visual Arts, on November 29th, 1934; it was the first art museum in Mexico, it means, the first cultural space dedicated to display art objects for their contemplation. Among the works of art that are kept within the Palace, the visitor can find the murals painted by Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo, Roberto Montenegro, Manuel Rodríguez Lozano and Jorge González Camarena. These paintings are not stock-still works, but they keep a dynamic constantly related to national and universal history.
