Guanajuato University (UGTO)

The history of the University goes back to 1732, when it was created under the name of Hospice of the Holy Trinity. On August 27, 1827, with the first constitutional government, the school changes its name to College of the Immaculate Conception, under the responsibility of the state and creating thus the School of Law, Painting, Sculpture, Architecture and, in 1831, the library of the university. In 1867, the name changed once again to College of the State.  During this period, there was an expansion in research, as well as in the development of new technical programs. Finally, in 1945, the school changed its name for the last time to University of Guanajuato, and in 1994 was recognized as autonomous University, now free from the government’s legislature.
