After its journey across China, Germany, and Italy, the grand exhibition returns to Mexico and opens new perspectives because it takes place in the context of the 500th anniversary of the disembark of the first Spanish expedition in Mayan lands.

The exhibit includes 333 pieces whose antiquity ranges between 500 BCE to the time of the Contact, and offers a panorama of the art of ancient Mayan culture. Also, a series of audiovisual and tactile resources have been deployed, among them replicas of 30 of the most emblematic pieces, for the public with hearing and visual disabilities.

In Mayas, the Language of Beauty. Crossed Glances, the concept of the Maya about “beautiful” –profoundly related to virtue and the divine–, contrasts with the impressions of those who came from the other side of the ocean. It brings together architectonic elements, sumptuary and utilitarian objects, crafted in an ample diversity of materials and techniques, they come from 45 archaeological sites of Campeche, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Yucatán.
