Ancient Mayas

The history of ancient Mayas offers an essential lesson for humanity, because although they interacted with a diverse environment for two millennia, they knew how to take advantage of it in order to improve their life quality and develop a prosperous and independent culture without destroying it. They cultivated in the rainforest, they used marshy lands and wisely disposed renewable resources; they faced natural disasters; overpopulation and oppression, but they achieved to preserve their traditions, moving to some other places and strengthening their family ties.

With a population that reached several millions of people, they occupied an area equivalent to the size of one-sixth of the Mexican territory, where they founded from small villages to large cities.

Among their contributions, outstand the design of their buildings, the sculpture and pictorial works, the calendars and their numbering and writing systems.
