It is unique in its kind for having one of the few circular buildings of the Mesoamerican area and for being one of the nodal points in the shaft tomb tradition. During the Late Classic and Post Classic, this urban settlement was the main axis of the so called Route of the Copper that communicated the American Southwest with the regions of central and southern Mesoamerica.

On the International Highway No. 15 (Guadalajara-Tepic section), at 3 kilometers (2 miles) of the city of Ixtlán del Rio. Or, from Ixtlan of River, go through the street Justo Barajas until the crossing with Avenida Hidalgo; then go 3 km toward the east motorway to the city of Guadalajara, until reaching kilometer 136 of the road where the tourist parador is located and at 60 meters (65 yards) the entrance to the archaeological site.
