Museum of the Identities from León

This place belonged to priest José María Valverde, later it became a children’s home of the Missionary Charities until june 1878, when the chapel of the “Padres Juaninos” hospital was closed, which caused the eviction of the hospice. Later, it was a jail. The remodeling works took place in the last decade of the 19th century. In 1994, it was installed the Wigberto Jiménez Moreno Public Library, thus beginning with the cultural activities at the building of the former prison. In 1999, the safekeeping of the building was granted to the Cultural Institute of León.

The Museum of the Identities from León holds the collective memory of the local activities that reaffirm the concept of what it is to be from León and study the traits that determine the identity. Nowadays, it continues with the remodeling and restoration works of the building under the supervision of the National Institute of Anthropology and History.
