In the second half of the 16th century and along the 17th, Zacatecas was the main mining centre of the New Spain. In its irregular layout, formed by small open spaces, streets, alleys in ramp or staggered, an important number of big monuments were built. The profuse Baroque decoration of its cathedral, manifested in the façades, testifies the remarkable contribution of the indigenous skill through the European religious iconography.
