La Raza Subway Station

REVIEW

The icon of the station represents the pyramid known as Monument to the Race.

In the corner of Insurgentes and Vallejo Avenues there is a monument dedicated to the Aztec race.

The work was done by the sculptor Luis Lelo de Larrea in 1940. It is a pre-Columbian pyramid; in the lower part of the right and left sides have sculpture groups that represent the defense group of Tenochtitlán and the Founding Group of Mexico; at the top part of the monument, in each side, there is a bronze relieve with the inscriptions: Itzcoatl, King of Mexico, Netzahualcoyotl, King of Texcoco; Totoquihuatzin, King of Tlacopan and Cuauhtémoc. It is crowned with a majestic eagle that in the beginning was meant for the Legislative Palace.
