REVIEW

Architectonic witness of the Evangelization in America, the San Francisco el Grande Church was venue for the Franciscan order, the first teaching center in the New Spain. It is built in what used to be Moctezuma’s zoo, its foundation dates to 1524 with the arrival of the Order of Friars Minor Observants headed by Fraiar Martín de Valencia.

Because of countless demolitions, reconstructions and expropriations, the church has gone through several changes in such a way that the orchard, gardens, cemetery and cloisters that once were part of it are gone and only remain the church and the chapel de Valvanera.
