Armando Manzanero Theater

REVIEW

The Armando Manzanero Theater, located at the historical downtown in Merida, began as a movie theater on December 9, 1949 showing the Spanish movie Locura de amor, sponsored by Tufic Charruf Baduy. The Merida Cinema became a modern forum in the Southwest of the country, the luxurious lobby was ideal to enjoy Mexican and international cinema. This cinema was victim of the crisis of the film industry in the 70’s leaving its 2,300 chairs empty.

In 1992, it was closed but on August 17, 2000, after the government remodeled the theater, it was reopened as a multi-purpose artistic space. Nowadays, the Armando Manzanero Theater has three forums with state of the art equipment, the Arturo de Córdova Main Hall holds up to 1,200 chairs, the Manuel Barbachano Ponce Cinematheque is for 227 persons and the Manuel Cirero Art Hall is for 101 spectators. In all of them you can enjoy series of independent and art films and the best film festivals.
