Clavijero Cultural Center

REVIEW

This place was conceived as a dynamic and convergence space of excellence that aims at boosting cultural and artistic approaches along with teaching, management, and promotion in order to enhance the quality of art teaching. This space displays temporary exhibitions of collections and/or artists of great prestige nationally and internationally. It is a magnificent building of baroque style of the XVII century. In the beginning, it lodged the Jesuit College of San Francisco Javier until 1767. Afterwards, it was correctional facility for priests. In 1864, the Michoacan Congress established its headquarters here. From 1969 to 1970, important restoration works were carried out and it served as the Civil Register offices until its remodeling to become a Cultural Center.
