Contemporary Art Gallery of Xalapa

Located in the historical downtown of Xalapa, capital of the state of Veracruz, the Contemporary Art Gallerry is housed by a building dated from the 18th century and that served, among other things, as hostel to provide accommodation for travelers passing by and frequent visitors of the city, which back then experienced a commercial boom, and it was known as El Mesón de San Bernardo. Considered by INAH as Historical Monument, it is an old house with characteristics of the vernacular architecture of that time: a central patio surrounded by several double-height rooms and a façade of vertical openings. In early 1990, the building was restored to become the Gallery of the State, incorporated to the Cultural Institute of Veracruz as from May 24, 1993. Today, the Contemporary Art Gallery is consolidated as one of the most important precincts of Veracruz standing out for its vocations: contemporary art and it is a space of reference for the young public. In addition to its informative program, it offers multiple artistic activities, that is why here coexists an interesting diversity of audiences that share, participate and enjoy its programing.
