The museum has five big halls to display works of art, three of them are in the ground floor with an area of 557 sq. meters and two in the first floor with an area of 110 sq. meters.
Since its construction, the Neoclassic building of the 19th century has had several functions. On 1865 was built the main floor and started its activity as meat market; on 1904 became the Postal Office, function it developed for many years.
It a Neoclassic building that the federal government acquired in 1903 to be the Casa de Correos. The state government recovered the building in 2006 to restore it and turn it into a museum. Finally on August 14, 2009 it was officially inaugurated as Museum of Contemporary Art of San Luis Potosi with the exhibit called: From Picasso to Rothko, a Look to the Collection of the Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art, with its own pieces and owned by Olga and Rufino Tamayo Foundation.
