The old Oaxaca station of the Railroad is located in Madero 511, Neighborhood of the Ex-marquisate, within the historical downtown of Oaxaca de Juárez; it was inaugurated by the President of the Republic, Gral. Porfirio Díaz Mori, on November 13, 1892. With the firm intention of preserving and spreading the Cultural Railway Heritage for future generations, the Honorable Town Hall of Oaxaca de Juárez signs on July 27, 2001, a contract of bailment with the Liquidator Committee of National Railroads of Mexico, with the idea of creating a thematic museum in the facilities of the old Oaxaca Station of the Railroad, project that was consolidated by the inauguration of the MUSEUM OF THE MEXICAN RAILROAD OF THE SOUTH on October 12, 2003.
