REVIEW

The Estanquillo Museum is located at one of the most visited corners in Historical Downtown, Isabel la Catolica and Madero. The building is called La Esmeralds, because it housed one of the most luxurious jewelries at the end of the 19th century known as La Esmeralda Hauser-Zivy y compañía, specialized in selling art pieces, jewels, watches and music boxes.

The idea of creating a museum from Carlos Monsiváis’ collections was something desired by many since his collection –about endless themes- was used in different temporary exhibits in different precincts.

The Estanquillo Museum is a gift to entertain Mexicans; a space without solemnities where you can find art in its broadest sense; a place where you can verify the physical changes the city has gone through and recognize popular urban art in daily objects.
