Folk Art Museum

REVIEW

The visitor of the Popular Art Museum finds works, of both ancient and recent creation, from the 32 Mexican states, when he has a tour through the five permanent halls, the two halls dedicated to the great masters of popular arts, the temporary exhibitions hall and the interpretation hall.

The main objective of the museum is to encourage and dignify popular art through its recovery, promotion and diffusion in and out of museums.

Here, there are crafts made of a great variety of materials, such as clay, wicker, paper and card board, papier-mâché, bules, wood, silver, gold, glass, textiles, metals, and tin, along with sculptures and carved wood that on the whole form collections of great artistic attraction.

The museum complements its services to the public with an information and research center that has a library and a newspaper and periodicals library. It has a store that offers a huge variety of popular art, from the most traditional to the most avant gard trends, from the most selected and finest to the smallest souvenirs.

The building, erected in 1928, is the second most important art deco building in Mexico. In 1966, it was given in gratuitous loan by the Government of Mexico City.
