REVIEW

The National Museum of the Cultures of the World was inaugurated in December 1965 in a historical building from the XVIII century which has had different uses: Mint, Quarter for the Guard of the Supreme Powers, Ministry of Finance, Supreme Court of Justice, store for the library, archive of the University, Postmaster Office, Statistics Department, Mexican Society of Geography and Statistics, house and office for the minister of Interior and Foreign Relations; Mexican Society of Natural History, Stamp Printing House; Attorney General’s office, Ministry of War’s Photography Department, nickel mint; fire station; National Graphic Workshops, and site of the National School of Anthropology and History.

The first museum of the country, whose name was Public Museum of Natural History, Archeology and History, was founded there in 1865.
