REVIEW

The theatre was remodeled and adapted on 1965, on the premises of Ariel Theatre –after five years of abandonment–, under the initiative of the former director of the Fine Arts Institute, Álvarez Acosta, who was ambassador of OPIC (Organism for International Promotion of Culture of the Foreign Relations Secretariat), in order to create a new space for theatre, destined to present masterworks of universal literature, affordable and free to the people. The space took its name Teatro Casa de la Paz (House of Peace Theatre) from Theatre of Peace in San Luis Potosí, from where Mr. Álvarez came from. On 1981, the building became part of the heritage of the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), from where it depends presently. The first staging in this space was Lysistrata, by Aristophanes, under the direction of Jebert Darién.
