Museum of Art of the State of Veracruz



REVIEW

The building of the Museum of Art of the State of Veracruz was occupied by a group of priests towards the second half of the 18th century who lived back then in the Villa de Orizaba. They reunited in with the objective of building the chapel of Philip Neri resembling the already existing ones in the New Spain.

The visitors can enjoy more than 100 years of artistic production made in Veracruz through the works of great master who inherited us, with a characteristic style of their own, the vast range of themes, techniques and trends in which the portraits, landscapes, customs of the society of their time were made.

The collection contributes to the knowledge of Mexican art with the most remarkable work of artists from Orizaba such as Justo Montiel, Fidencio Díaz de la Vega, Ramón Sagredo, Tiburcio Sánchez, Ignacio Rosas and Gonzalo Argüelles Bringas, as well as the artists from Tlacotalpan Alberto Fuster and Salvador Fernando; the traveling artists José Obregón and the Spanish José Escudero y Espronceda. The Catalonian José Cusach, who became internationally famous as painter of battles, Joan Bernardet I. Aguilar who came to Mexico in the late 19th century and lived in Veracruz until he died.
