REVIEW

The Contemporary Art Museum of Monterrey, also known for its acronym in Spanish MARCO, is located in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. It is the work of the Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta and was inaugurated on June 28th, 1991. MARCO was founded with the mission of generating exhibitions and selecting projects from other institutions, with its focus on offering the public a frame of reference regarding the current moment of national and international contemporary art. It aims to be the most important cultural institution promoter of contemporary art of Latin America.

MARCO is Nuevo León’s Heritage and an icon of the city of Monterrey, but it is also one of the most important cultural centers of Latin America, which since 1991 has earned an important prestige presenting the best of contemporary art through 238 exhibitions where it has displayed the works by the most relevant artists from the whole world.

At the entrance of the museum we can find The Dove, sculpture by Juan Soriano. It exhibits more than 100 pieces of contemporary art, it organizes guided visits, concerts, workshops, auctions and cultural events. It offers catalogues and educational programs for teachers. It has an auditorium, restaurant, café, and shop.
