  • CATEGORY: Museums
  • PHONES: (656) 611 1048

It promotes and spreads the Pre-Hispanic cultures and artistic expressions of the region, the country and the exterior. The building that harbors it was designed by the Architect Vicente Cotera, as a part of El Chamizal Public Park. The concept for the museum was in charge of Roberto Cuétara, with the collaboration of the poet Carlos Pellicer, who inaugurated it on 1976.

El Chamizal belongs to the territory that became part of Mexico thanks to an international agreement signed on 1963 by the Presidents of Mexico: Adolfo López Mateos, and of United States, John F. Kennedy. The physical delivery took place two years later, with the presidents Gustavo Díaz Ordaz and Lyndon B. Johnson.
