REVIEW

The Museum of Philately of Oaxaca –MUFI– is a non-profit civil association dedicated to preserve and spread the Mexico and world philately memory through a stamp collection, exhibition and workshops. The museum is the only one of its kind in Latin America.

Since July 9, 1998 the Museum of Philately of Oaxaca offers its space as an open cultural center for different artistic expressions that contribute to the development of the city and of the country. It has more than 200,000 pieces in the collection among which there are stamps, envelops, special franking, paper, postal art, and a great bibliographic collection. Whether it is by theme or country, the halls exhibit a part of the history of philately.

The museum has a vault to keep and display the most important postal pieces, among them, a collection from 1856 to this day, special franks of Oaxaca, several theme collections of the world and a collection of Frida Kahlo’s letters to Dr. Leo Eloesser.

The Jose Lorenzo Cossio y Cosio Library, inside the MUFI, offers the public a specialized bibliographic collection in philately where the visitor can find catalogues, magazines, auctions, newspapers, philatelic pamphlets from Mexico and the world. It is a space dedicated to research and reading open for the general public.
