Morelos’ Birth Home Museum

The musem displays documents and belongings of the Generalissimo Morelos. There are documents with his holographic signature, money that the hero coined and several paintings that relate to the same character made by the artist from Michoacan Alfredo Zalce. It has an audiovisual hall suitable for conferences and musical events that is the home of a small film club as well. The film club offers weekly free screenings of national and international cinema. Additionally, the museum has a public library that lodges an interesting bibliographic collection mostly dealing with history and literature. As a special attraction, we display an animated and speaking statue (animatronic) of the Servant of the Nation who expresses part of “The Feelings of the Nation”. Morelos’s Birth Home is a beautiful house with baroque style interiors and a neoclassic façade. The hero of the war of independence, Don Jose Maria Morelos, was born there on September 30th of 1765. The original house where the Servant of the Nation was born does not exist any longer, since it was demolished in 1888 and we only know it for an old lithography. The current building was erected at the end of the XIX century. It was remodeled and fitted out to be a House of Culture in 1964.
