The best shows presented in the Main Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts can be enjoyed by the public for free in the giant screen placed at the Ángela Peralta hallway, on a side of the marble precinct.

Opera in three acts and five scenes by Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) with libretto in Italian by Giuseppe Adami (1878-1946) and Renato Simoni (1875-1952), based on the homonymous fable by Carlo Gozzi (1720-1806). Considered as one of the last great operas, Turandot, by Giacomo Puccini takes place in Beijing, and it’s starred by the cruel princess Turandot, the emperor’s daughter who to choose a husband, has decided to test her suitors to solve three riddles and if they failed, the penalty would be death.

Timu, king of Tartary, arrives to the city, and reunites with his son Calaf, that was believed to be dead, and object of love of the slave Liú.

Calif, surprised by Turandot’s beauty, decides to submit to her tests to win her hand and, when she sees that he passes the tests one by one, seems reluctant to fulfill her promise, so Calif tells her that if she discovers his name before dawn, she will get rid of marring him.

To achieve her goal, Turandot tortures Timur and Liu, to confess the name of the foreign prince, but Liú, decides to die before revealing the identity of his beloved.

Calaf and Turando remain alone and he kisses her in order to softer her cruelty, and whispers his name, leaving his destiny on her hands.

At the morning, the princess calls the town’s people to reveal the identity of the prince and the opera ends with the phrase: “His name is love”.
