Otello

Opera

Otello (title in Italian) is an opera in four acts with music by Giseppe Verdi (1813-1901), and libretto in Italian by Arrigo Boito (1842-1918), based in the play by William Shakespeare (1546-1616): The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice.

Otello, victorious Moor general to the service of the Republic of Venice and the Governor of Cyprus, is the victim of the intrigue plotted by Iago, his ensign, resentful because he wasn’t appointed Captain. The ending results in a tragedy that will cover the Moor’s palace in blood.
