The congress Thinking the Conquest. 500 Years has the objective of opening a space for the academic reflection around the historic events that occurred in the so-called Conquest of Mexico.

This event brings together 20 researchers who will address, from a contemporary perspective, the events and transformations that emerged in the current Mexican territory after the arrival of the Spaniards on 1519.

Emerged from the genuine scientific interest for questioning the hegemonic discourse, this congress proposes to spread the most recent historiographical researches around the Conquest and its impact on the political, social, economic, and cultural life of the future Viceroyalty of the New Spain. Finally, this event aims to re-signify the actors and the facts of a crucial historical moment to understand the current history of Mexico.
