The Office of Ethnohistory, INAH, invites

Research about the dream and oneiric activity to access the empiric “knowledge” of Mexico’s indigenous communities of yesterday and today, is one of the main objectives that encourages us to call again to the 3rd Encounter of Ethnohistory and Anthropology of the Oneiric State in Mexico: Tales and Events of the Other World.

We aim to understand the function of dream in everyday and ritual life of the indigenous communities seen from a multidisciplinary point of view in order to be able to understand the complex interweaving of oneiric activity among the different ritual specialists of Mexico and other parts of the globe. The effort lies in comparing multiple epistemologies, multi-local, “knowledges”, and biocultural memories of the indigenous peoples, referring to the relations between persons with their environment, with the animals and the “forces” or “anima” entities that live in every corner of their space, having an influence in a straight manner in their forms to know the world.

It seems important for us creating an academic space to debate, analyze, and reflect around the different theoretical and methodological approaches about the research of dream and its impact on the non-Western societies, in order to to understand the evolution of the indigenous multi-local and multi-dynamic knowledge, as an alternative way to “know”, “see”, “understand”, and relate with the world in face of the attack of the system.
