While she works in the United States as a nurse with a temporary visa, Mara, a 30-year-old Romanian woman, marries Daniel, an American. With the arrival of her son Dragos, everything in her life seems to perfectly fit in. However, when the process of obtaining her permanent resident card goes off rails, she faces the abuses of power as she is forced to answer: up to where is she willing to go to obtain what she desires? With a style that conjugates the style of the American independent cinema and of the so-called new Romanian wave, the debut film by Ioana Uricaru depicts the experience of an immigrant who attempts to establish herself in a country marked by xenophobia.
