Mummies. Illusions of Eternal Life

Unlike other mummies, such as Egyptian ones, in which the conservation process has required the intervention of man, those found in Mexico are usually the product of natural phenomena. The bodies preserved as a result of complex environmental processes, become material testimonies of people and cultures, provide scientific information and transmit cultural values.

Conceived and designed by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), the museographic exhibition is presented with the idea of sharing with the general public the scientific and cultural wealth of this heritage. It is the product of collegiate work between archeology and history to show the different meanings that pre-Hispanic and viceroyal Mexico have given to death and the preservation of bodies.
