On February 11, 1918, the President Venustiano Carranza received the credentials of baron Fugitaro Otori as Minister Plenipotentiary of Japan in our country. The relations between the two countries had been narrowed since the end of the 19th century and during the 20th century.

In this friendly relationship, it was highlighted the role of the Japanese minister in Mexico, Kumaichi Horiguchi, who arrived in Mexico in 1909 and strengthened the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. Horiguchi, together with his wife Stina, had a close friendship with President Madero and his family. Both had an exemplary attitude during the Ten Tragic Days, providing consular protection and assistance to the President’s family, thus helping them to save their life.
