Production Techniques in Missions

The geographic situation of the peninsula of Baja California became a strategic element in the maritime expansion of the Pacific in the 16th and 17th century. The routes of the Manila Galleon relied on the Jesuit missions in California, regarding the supply of food and the protection of the ships from the attack of pirates. In this room predominate objects from the Asian market that exemplify these maritime routes of commerce. As a complement of the exhibition, there are sculptures made in carved wood and oil paintings from the 18the century.
