Contrary to the canon of the most rigorous avant-garde, Aleck Karis’ repertoire outlines an arch from the 18th century to the 21st one. A renewed piano tradition, reinterpreted or confronted in present time in order to make possible, for example, the coexistence of a sonata by Mozart and the Mantra by Stockhausen, for two pianos and electronica.
This opening of criteria, combined with the aesthetic curiosity and the performing accuracy, defines the career of the American pianist on stages and the album recording from Stravinsky to Cage, from Glass to the last Chopin or all Poulenc. Equally attractive and varied will be the program he presents this time: Debussy, Liang, Birtwistle and the premier of a work by Víctor Ibarra, commissioned by the Cervantino Festival.
