Unique in Latin America, The Gates of Hell by Auguste Rodin joins the collection of Soumaya Museum after a long itinerary that began in 2012 between the Ministry of Culture of France, the Musée Rodin of Paris, the Foundry of Coubertin and Carlos Slim Foundation in Mexico.

It stands at 5.22 meters high, 3.90 meters wide and 6 tons in weight, casted in bronze, it is the 8th copy of the original.

Assembled in four cores, the exhibit The Gates of Hell exhibits the conception, characters and the way in which the biggest creative challenge of Auguste Rodin was made. The exhibition has video-references that allow the visitor to locate each piece in The Gates, to understand its origin and read directly documents, reviews and verses in the context of it origin.

The characters of the gate are inspired both in The Divine Comedy by Dante –masterpiece of universal literature- and Les Fleurs du mal by the controversial poet Charles Baudelaire.

In the eve of the 100th anniversary of his death, François-Auguste-René Rodin offers reasons to be excited and reflection.
