Carlos Monsiváis Collection

This collection that belonged to Carlos Monsiváis, is integrated by more than 50 thousand materials and it’s dedicated to preserve and disseminate the personal library of the writer.

At the entrance, the public will find the themes that Monsiváis loved:

Mexico City and its daily life, archaeology, plastic artists, photographers, art books, photography, music, graphics, sculpture, literature, design, history, among others.

We can consult over 6 thousand comics and special edition comics, among them, Pepín, La familia Burrón, Paquito, Los supersabios, The avengers and Chamaco, especially cartoonists such as: El Fisgón, Naranjo and Rius.

The heritage preserves the first special edition of the book Canto General (General Song) by Pablo Neruda, published in Mexico.

Texts of English, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Latin-American, Mexican and general literature, and over 400 books related to male and female homosexuality, as well as to sexual liberation.

Monsivais was a great cinema lover, so you can find over 500 books with this topic: stories of artists and films of the American industry and Mexican cinema.

In the same we can consult over 300 books where he collaborated completely or only writing a prologue, essay or article, and more than 13 thousand national and international magazines.

We also have the opportunity to know about his relationship and friendship with many of the most important Mexican and Latin American intellectuals of the second half of the 20th century, and his 2600 signed books, with the signatures of the Nobel prizes in Literature Gabriel García Márquez, Octavio Paz, Toni Morrison and Pablo Neruda.
