Ripley’s Game (Liliana Cavani, 2002)

Talks About Cinema and Literature: Patricia Highsmith

Ripley is a dangerous retired criminal who placidly lives in Veneto, Italy, until a former partner asks him for help to take out some mobsters who are interfering with his business. Ripley convinces Jonathan Trevanny, a terminally ill man with cancer with no criminal record, to take charge of the commission in exchange of ensuring the future of his family. Third entry of the series about the character of Tom Ripley, created by Patricia Highsmith. The famous director of The Night Porter, Liliana Cavani, proposes a cruel, modern tale, which reminds us of the ideas of Nietzsche and Dostoyevski.
