The need for a safe life, for an immutable social order, for a population safe from the uncontrollable nature and the enemies of the spirit, for a legitimation of the political power, were the axis for the establishment of a devotional cycle that is specific of the city of Puebla de los Ángeles [Puebla of the Angels].

The city’s representative, the City Hall, was the corporation that established the relations between the earthly order and the sacred world, in search for protection for the Angelopolis. Through the election or acceptance of a member of the heavenly court in the role of patron, a devotional cycle for Puebla was created through the establishment of contracts between saints and dedications with the inhabitants of Puebla. The patron saints of the city of Puebla make up a protection wall against different dangers.

This is the story that is told in this exhibition.
