Juanicas is an intimate portrait of a family of Mexican immigrants. For 10 years, the director Karina García Casanova recorded the complex relation she has with her mother and brother, both diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The process of shooting started when Juan returns to Canada after being committed in Mexico. At first, the filming seems to bring the family together, but the old patterns of behavior emerge again. As Juan’s condition worsens, the spectator is taken to a journey that is as moving as it is revealing.
