REVIEW

It was one of Mesoamerica’s most important pre-Hispanic cities. Erected over the top of a mountain in the middle of the Central Valleys of Oaxaca, it was the capital of the Zapotec people. On the time of its cultural peak, Monte Albán harbored 35,000 inhabitants who lived mostly on the terraced hillsides that were used for agriculture. The Teotihuacan influence can be appreciated in its architecture, ceramics, and mural paintings.
