The layout of the ancient city of Antequera (Oaxaca) was the first one built on a grid pattern in the New Spain. It conserves one of the richest ensembles of civil and religious architecture of the Continent, many of them artistic and architecturally outstanding. Monte Albán was an extraordinary cultural center in the extensive region of the Valleys of Oaxaca, highlighting its outstanding aesthetic qualities: stele and sculpted reliefs, ceramic, mural painting and treasures of its tombs.
