The Cold War is set in West Berlin in the times of the Wall. The action takes place between 1982 and 1984. Two Mexicans, a rock musician (El Gato) and an actress (Carolina), have settled there following the footsteps of David Bowie and Lou Reed, who a few years before had given the city a mythic status. The plot occasionally follows Berlin, the record by Reed. In the divided city, courts the destruction of drugs and mistakes the aggression with passion. But the true “Cold War” takes place between them, but both prefer to lose it to keep together.
The joint efforts of the institutions participating in the project, as well as of the creative and artistic team involved enabled to take the theatre from the theatre and take it to the space of the museum, a practice that is infrequent in Mexico City.
The play: Self-Destruction 8 by Abraham Cruzvillegas is a piece that in 2016 was added to the Tamayo Museum Collection thanks to the program: Payment in Kind, and it leads to the construction of the universe inhabited by the protagonists of the pay: The Cold War, aesthetically as well as in its most profound meaning. The love combat, the inevitable destruction that they exercise on each other and on themselves, are expressed through this piece, thus becoming into a living metaphor for the couple’s relation.
