Considered as one of the cruelest films about war in the history of cinema, Come and See is based in the massacres perpetuated by the Nazi in Belarus during the Second World War, where over 620 villages were burnt together with all their inhabitants. The film is told through the eyes of a teenager who wants to join the partisans, but progressively will discover the violence, suffering, and slaughter. Combining a meticulous realism with moments of lyricism, the filmmaker Elem Klimov made an anti-war statement where an always moving camera and the overwhelming expressionist atmosphere leave the spectator in a state of shock.
