Maxim Vengerov

Maxim Vengérov is a violinist born in Novosibirsk, the capital of Siberia. When he was 10 years old, he won the 1st Prize at the Junior Wieniawski violin contest in Poland, after having studied with Galina Turschanínova and, later, with the distinguished pedagogue Zakhar Bron, in the former Soviet Union.

He regularly performed concerts in Moscow and Leningrad and soon began to perform as a soloist with the Royal Concergebouworkest, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and Valeri Gérgiev at the Lichfield Festival in the UK, as well as with the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR, conducted by Yuri Siminiov, during an extensive tour across Italy.

In 1997, Maxim Vengérov was named UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, being the first classical music performer who has received such nomination. He’s currently a visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Listen to him!
