The Great Literary Festival

The life of Hanako Muraoka, one of the most illustrious Japanese writers and translators of the 20th century, who translated for the first time from English into Japanese the book Anne of Green Gables, by Lucy M. Montgomery.

The series focuses on the most important moments in the life of Hanako Muraoka, the first woman who translated from English into Japanese the book Anne of Green Gables, by L. M. Montgomery: her childhood in Kofu, her native town; her youth in the Shuwa boarding school; and the consolidation of her career as a translator in the midst of tragic events such as the Great Kanto Earthquake (1923), WWII (1939-1945) and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
