This exhibition presents photographs from Bob Schalkwijk’s first fifteen years in Mexico (1959-1974), a period of time in which he dedicated his energy to learning about the Mexican cultural diversity, which was so different from his native country. The exhibition brings together a selection of photos of his early journeys and series that reveal the eye of the young Dutchman who discovered with fascination the many cultures of this nation. It shows how it is possible to capture the richness of the ancestral culture of Mexico from a distinct perspective. The majority of the images are on exhibit for the first time, a way of returning to this country all that its people offered to him.
