Homeland Square, formerly known as Main Square, is the center of the life of the city of Aguascalientes and has been witness to the historic changes. IN the center of the square lies the Exedra, monument erected by King Carlos IV of Spain. On top of the column it was planned to place his bust, but it was placed that of his son Fernando VII instead, which was moved on 1821, after the independence of Mexico was consummated.
The kiosk was built on 1887, under orders of Governor Francisco G. Hornedo, however, on 1947 the square experienced changes that left its as it is today. ON that same period, the fountain dedicated to Manuel M. Ponce, renowned musician and composer, was redesigned.
On the early 1980s, the Republican Eagle was placed on top of the column, a replica of the work of the sculptor from Aguascalientes: Jesús F. Contreras.
