REVIEW

The Casamata Fort is a unique monument that is particularly relevant for the military architecture of the country. It was a part of an extensive defensive system for the strategic city of Matamoros in the nineteenth century, which was inevitably demolished during the 20th century.

Of all those trenches, pits, and fortifications, the Casamata Fort barely survived, a construction restored on 2006, which harbors a fundamental vision of the past of this heroic city that today reemerges as a vigorous contemporary cultural space.

Such emblematic precinct also represents the importance of preserving, reexamining, and projecting to the future the common legacy of the constructed heritage, where history not only is a material presence, but also an example of the meaning and the roots of the Mexican nation, to be used as a reference for the present and future generations.
