The House of Culture of Puebla city is located in the former College of Saint John, a historical building from the 16th century. In 1974 the State Government decided to recover it by removing all the offices installed in the building; by ordinance of the Congress of the State of Puebla, 35 years ago, the House of Culture of Puebla was established, under the direction of its founder: Prof. Pedro Angel Palou Perez. The building was conditioned with exhibition and conference rooms, to which were added the Luis Buñuel Cinematheque, and the Vicente T. Mendoza Sound Recordings Library; also, a bookstore, the Gabino Barreda Public Library, and an auditorium.
