February 3, 1918: Commemoration of the Death Anniversary of Mariano Matamoros

The Mariano Matamoros Civic Society and the Cooperative National Party led the ceremony commemorating the 104th death anniversary of the hero of national independence. In the morning, the members of these civic-political associations and people of the town gathered in the Monument to Juárez to start a procession to the Military Prison of Santiago Tlatelolco, where Matamoros made his first studies, when it was the College of Santa Cruz.

In that place, some passages of his heroic life were recalled, in addition to dedicating him some musical pieces with the Orchestra of the Industrial School of Orphans. After the ceremony, the demonstrators moved to the Metropolitan Cathedral to stand guard of honor in the chapel where the urn with his remains was. In the ceremony was attended by Matamoros’ granddaughter.
