The National Dance Company (CND) of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), will present The Nutcracker ballet with a high level production and completely new costumes and lightning; with choreography by Nina Novak based on the original by Lev Ivanov and Piotr Illich Tchaikovsky’s music. It’s a show that has become a tradition in the Christmas season and brings together over 150 artists on stage.

The original version was premiered in 1892 at the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg, and this year celebrates the 125th anniversary of its premier in that venue.

With the National Dance Company directed by Mario Galizzi, accompanied by the Orchestra of the Fine Arts Theater.

On Christmas eve party, Clara receives from her godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer, a beautiful nutcracker that arouses envy from her brother Fritz, who when trying to grab it breaks the toy’s head by accident. His uncle calms them down by repairing the toy. The party is over and everybody goes to bed. Clara, in her dreams, lives diverse adventures where everything becomes enormous: the armchair, the walls, and the toys; mice and the nutcracker are her size; in the battle against the mice, Clare runs to rescue her friend. The nutcracker, having become a prince due to Clara’s love, invites her to a journey as reward for having saved his life. They travel to the land of snow, later, they go to the land of sugar. The sugar fairy and her knight receive them and congratulate Clara for her courage; they invite her to sit on the royal throne, where along with the nutcracker she enjoys the feast in her honor. Several characters who represent the most delicious and exotic flavors from diverse countries parade before them. It is time to say goodbye. This is an unforgettable Christmas for Clara.

The ballet is based on the tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, written in German by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann in 1816 and then adapted to French by Alexandre Dumas.
