May 18th, 1917: Execution of General Otilio Montaño

On May 18th, 1917, the Zapatista General Otilio Montaño, writer of the Plan of Ayala, accused of taking part in the uprising of the village of Buenavista de Cuéllar against the General Headquarters of the South. Montaño, one of Zapata’s closest advisors and the most important ideologist of Zapatismo in its early stage, had been displaced by Manuel Palafox and Antonio Díaz Soto y Gama, and took distance from the Warlord of the South. The sentence of death was executed in the main square of Tlatizapán, General Headquarters of the South.
